Getting to Tawoomba

Early Thursday morning, my family and myself left Hill End heading to Sydney to meet Peter Lewer who offered to give me a ride to Toowoomba. Around 11am that morning we met up with other P.A.C.A members and we began our trip to Toowoomba. Out first stop on the agenda was at Morphe for morning tea. Afterwards, we continued onto Muswellbrook where we met fellow Pasckardian ‘Noel Shorter’ at the Hermitage motel where wee stayed the first night.

At 9am the next morning we all set out again. Today I had the pleasure of travelling with Noel Shorter in his 1939 Packard. The first stop of the day was at Tamworth for morning tea at the Big Golden Guitar café. With a few minor problems the majority of the group met at Armidale for lunch. After everyone recharged their batteries we began heading towards the resting place for the evening at Glenn Innes. Tonight we all stayed at the Rest Pt Motor Inn.

The third day consisted of a pleasant drive in Jeff & Margaret Clarkson’s recently restored 1952 Packard. This was my first experience in riding in a later model Packard, and was very enjoyable. The seats were so comfy that I happened to fall asleep twice. That evening we reached our destination Toowoomba. The accommodation provided consisted of nicely refurbished rooms at the Glenfield Motor Inn and Gefforys Motor Inn. Both the motels were located next door to each other.
